Just answer a few quick questions on your ailing hard drive, SSD, USB stick, memory card or RAID. Back comes the likely fault, the steps to protect your data now, and an instant ballpark price — no phone call required.
Shaped around the faults we see most often. Your answers never leave your browser — we hear from you only if you choose to make contact.
The tool asks what the device is and how it is behaving, then tells you what it is probably doing and what it would cost.
Answer a handful of quick questions for your probable fault, urgent safety pointers, and an instant ballpark price.
Drop it at our Oxford Science Park point, or post it insured with the printable shipping slip. We run a free diagnostic and put your exact quote in writing.
With the quote approved, we recover your data and hand it back on a new external drive or via secure cloud download. Most jobs are no fix, no fee.
All plus VAT, and confirmed in writing after a free 48-hour diagnostic on the actual device.
SD, microSD, CompactFlash and flash drives, including snapped connectors and monolithic packages.
Internal and external hard drives, SATA and NVMe SSDs, and Macs with removable storage.
Two devices recovered and recombined into the single volume they present as.
Whatever the level, controller or member count.
Encrypted volumes with a valid key, and footage carved from proprietary recorder formats.
Virtual machines and forensic work from £800; enterprise SAN from £1,250.
Worth being straight about what an online tool can and cannot establish.
It works from symptoms, and symptoms are genuinely informative — a clicking drive is a head fault, a drive that spins silently and is undetected is usually electronics or firmware, and a volume that mounts but shows as RAW is a file-system problem. Those distinctions are reliable enough to place a job in the right band and tell you whether it is urgent.
What it cannot do is see inside the device. Whether a head crash has scored the platter, how far bad sectors have spread, or whether an SSD’s controller can be revived are all questions only the bench answers. So the tool gives you a band and an expectation; the free 48-hour diagnostic gives you a fixed figure, and that is the one that counts.
Whatever the tool tells you, these apply.
If it is making a noise it did not make before, switch it off now. Clicking, grinding, buzzing and beeping all mean the mechanism, and all get measurably worse with every minute of power. That single decision affects the outcome more than which lab you eventually choose.
If it still reads, copy what matters off. A drive that is slow and throwing errors is still a drive you can read, and that window closes without warning. Copy by value rather than alphabetically, to a different physical drive, and accept that some files will fail. Then stop using it.
Yes — wholly free, no sign-up, no card details. It all runs in your browser, so contact only happens if you choose it. The in-house diagnostic on the device itself is free too.
It reads an accurate ballpark from your device type, which fits the great majority of recoveries. The odd case — a physically damaged card needing chip-level work, or an involved RAID rebuild — can land higher. Your exact price is always confirmed in writing after the free diagnostic, ahead of any work.
For most jobs, no recovered data means no recovery fee. Your written quote sets out exactly what applies to your case, so nothing surprises you.
Package your media and either bring it to our Oxford Science Park point, Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm, or post it fully insured. Print the shipping slip above, add your details, and slip it into the parcel with your name, phone, email and address so we can log it in.
Power it down straight away and keep it off. That clicking or grinding almost always points to a physical head or motor fault, and each powered minute risks more harm. Use the diagnostic above for guidance suited to you, or ring 01865 593000 without delay.
