The distinction matters more than it sounds. A repair shop aims to return a working machine, and will often get there by fitting a new drive. We do the opposite: the device is frequently beyond saving by the time it reaches us, and the objective is the contents rather than the hardware. A drive fitted with donor heads is not expected to work again.

“We can decrypt ransomware.” For current families the encryption is sound and the keys sit with the attacker. Anyone claiming otherwise is describing an old flawed strain or selling a ransom payment with a fee attached.
“We do board-level recovery on any Mac.” On T2 and Apple Silicon machines the flash is soldered and encrypted by the security chip, with the key fused to that board. A chip-off returns ciphertext. “99% success rate.” Success rates depend entirely on what you accept — a firm that declines difficult jobs will have a wonderful figure. We would rather quote honestly on the case in front of us.
