Process · how it works

How a recovery actually runs.

A transparent path, free of nasty surprises, running from that first quote all the way to your data back in hand — a fixed written price settled before any work, and no fix, no fee on most jobs. Every stage is laid out below, beginning to end.

Five stages, zero surprises.

The price is known before anything starts, and for most jobs payment only follows once your data is back.

// the sequence

Five stages, and a price before stage three.

The same order whatever the device, and nothing chargeable until you have agreed a figure.

01

Send it in or drop it off

Insured post, or in person at John Eccles House on the Oxford Science Park. Send the bare drive where you can; external units complete with their enclosure. Include a note saying what happened and what has already been tried.

02

Free diagnostic, within 48 hours

The fault is classified — mechanical, electronic, firmware or logical — because that decides the route, the price and the realistic odds. No charge and no obligation.

03

A fixed written quote

One figure, agreed before anything is touched. It does not move afterwards. If the job would be better done with software, or cannot be done at all, we say so here.

04

Repair only as far as imaging requires

Donor heads, board repair with ROM migration, service-area work — enough to make the device readable, not to make it usable again. It is not expected to work afterwards.

05

Read-only imaging, then reconstruction

The device is cloned and everything else happens against the copy. File systems rebuilt, arrays reassembled, files carved where structure is gone.

// what stays constant

Four rules that do not change.

Whatever the device and whatever the fault.

// timescales and cost

What to expect, and when.

Honest ranges rather than a promise nobody can keep.

The diagnostic is normally back within 48 hours. From approval, a single drive typically completes in three to four working days; arrays, donor-part sourcing and extensive imaging take longer, and we give you a timescale with the quote rather than afterwards. Priority handling is available and quoted alongside — it removes the queue, though it cannot make a failing drive read faster.

Prices start at £250 +VAT for cards and USB sticks and £300 +VAT for a single drive, with RAID, NAS and servers from £500 +VAT. Most work is no fix, no fee; where physical drive-level work is needed there is a 50% deposit with the balance due only on success. Recovered data comes back on fresh media with free return shipping.
