No one will extract your private keys from a hardware wallet that is doing its job (resisting exactly that is why it was purchased). What is truly recoverable is everything surrounding it: wallet files/keystores on drives that have failed; and seed phrases that were photographed, typed out, exported then lost with the device holding them.
Recovery that is legitimate is performed on your storage media, never on your seed. Anybody asking you to type or send your recovery phrase (including for “ownership verification” purposes) is attempting theft. We never need it & never ask for it.

We cannot pull a private key off a functional hardware wallet. These wallets (Ledger, Trezor etc.) keep your private key in a specialised secure chip that will be extremely difficult to physically remove and as long as it’s lost and you do not know your seed, your money can’t get out. This is how the model works to protect you; this isn’t a gap that a professional can close. We don’t hack through your password, and we won’t take a cut on your money.

Before we do anything else, the drive, card, or stick will first be copied (cloned) as this way nothing is ever going to be written to the source/origin/original version.

Files associated with wallets, i.e. files with recognisable formats, such as a wallet.dat or keystore, can sometimes still be recovered from unallocated space on your device even after your file system has crashed.

Companies like this create an incentive to overestimate the feasibility of recovering lost files. Ledger, Trezor etc. will store the private keys within a secure element which is designed to prevent a thief physically extracting them. Without the seed phrase (the original phrase used to generate an address), you are unable to access the funds; that’s the security model doing its job.
Generally, yes: this is typical “data recovery” in the sense of recovering your files off of a failed drive. The failed drive is usually copied (read-only) then the file structure is rebuilt as best possible, and wallet files may still be able to be recovered using signatures, or even deleted versions that you yourself don’t know about, when the file system is completely gone.
