How the process runs, what each device costs, and — the part most firms leave out — the four situations where nobody can recover your data. Better to know that at a free diagnostic than after paying to discover it.
The figure is put in writing once the free diagnostic is done — and not one moment before. Every price on this page excludes VAT.
The same sequence whatever the device, and nothing chargeable until you agree a figure.
Insured post, or in person at John Eccles House on the Oxford Science Park. Bare drives where possible; external units complete with their enclosure.
The fault is classified — mechanical, electronic, firmware or logical — because that determines the route, the price and the realistic odds.
One figure, agreed before any work. It does not move, and we will tell you if the job is one you could do yourself.
The device is cloned before anything else, so every recovery attempt runs against the copy and the original is never written to.
Files are opened to confirm they work, not simply counted, and returned on fresh media with free return shipping.
Published rates rather than case-by-case quoting.
Stated plainly, because knowing them saves you time and money.
Modern ransomware. The encryption is sound and the keys sit with the attacker. We recover around it — shadow copies, unencrypted originals, files the run never reached — but we do not decrypt, and nor does anyone else.
Soldered Mac storage on a dead board. On T2 and Apple Silicon machines the key is fused to the logic board; once it fails the data is gone. Encrypted volumes without the key. BitLocker, FileVault and hardware encryption cannot be broken by us or by anyone. TRIMmed SSD deletions. Files deleted from a working SSD are usually erased within minutes. We identify all four at the free diagnostic rather than after an invoice.
What people ask us most often. For one specific device, its own page in the table above goes further.
The diagnostic is free and normally back within 48 hours. From approval, a single drive is typically three to four working days; arrays and jobs needing donor parts take longer, and we give you a timescale with the quote rather than afterwards.
On most jobs, no — that is what no fix, no fee means. Where physical drive-level work is needed we take a 50% deposit covering parts and bench time, with the balance only on success. Forensic, CCTV and destruction work is excluded and we say so up front.
Insured post, or drop it off at John Eccles House on the Oxford Science Park. Send bare drives rather than whole machines where you can, and external units complete with their enclosure — on many the bridge board is part of how the disk is read.
Yes. NDAs are available and standard for business work, data stays in the UK, and recovered data is returned on fresh media with copies removed after an agreed period.
Modern ransomware encryption, soldered Mac storage on a failed logic board, encrypted volumes without the key, and files TRIMmed from a working SSD. All four are identified at the free diagnostic so you are not paying to find out.
Priority handling is available and quoted alongside the recovery. It removes the queue, though it cannot change how long a donor part takes to source or how fast a failing drive can safely be read — and we will say when it would not help.
Kick off with a free written diagnostic. We'll establish what's recoverable and the cost — the decision is then yours. Bring your device to Oxford, or send it over fully insured.
