About 99% recovered, returned on fresh media. The shortfall was confined to files whose contents and index entries both fell in bad regions.
The client replaced the LinkStation with a two-bay unit and, more importantly, added a copy that is not in the same building. A mirrored NAS would have survived this particular failure; it would not have survived a fire, a theft or a ransomware run, and by then the habit of treating one device as the backup was the real problem.
