The decode: what initialising does, and the prompt that comes next

What initialisation actually writes: a partition table. A few sectors at the very beginning of the drive, describing where volumes start and end. That is the entire operation — it does not format anything, does not create a filesystem, and does not touch a single byte of content.

So what was lost: the previous partition table, which occupied those same few sectors. Everything behind it — the filesystem, the folders, the files — sits exactly where it was, undisturbed, waiting for something to describe it again.

Why that is a bounded and recoverable loss: partition structures are small, well-defined, and reconstructable.
