Those three views show different things, and checking all of them is a proper elimination that most people never perform. There is one setting worth confirming before drawing the conclusion, and then the finding stands.

The decode: what the three views each report

The desktop shows mounted volumes only. A drive appears there when the system has read its filesystem and made it usable. A perfectly healthy drive with a damaged volume shows nothing on the desktop, which is why stopping at that check tells you very little.
