The decode: what they established, and what nobody can establish from there

What their test was worth: a real finding. The drive powers up and content is not accessible — that eliminates a dead board, a failed power supply and a drive that never spins. Reaching it required them to connect the drive and observe carefully, which is more than many enquiries arrive with.

Why the difficulty cannot follow from it: that same observation is produced by at least four quite different faults.
